how much i love you?

my friend asked me through text what would i say if my partner asked me how much i love him?

my answer was:

words are never enough to describe to you how much i love you. giving measure to it will just limit my extent of love for you because what i have for you is infinite. but for you to have an idea of what i am feeling, i would go to the moon (and beyond) and back for you.

then, a while ago i was thinking that i should have said "to the depth of space" because that would really be infinite.

after that it got me thinking...we always say great professions of love when we are in love but do we really mean it? at the height of the moment, perhaps.

this is what i have seen so far as far as my and my friend's experience is concerned:

i love you forever really means:
i love you as long as you love me.
i love you the same as the way you love me.
i love you if...
i love you when...
i love you because...

at this day and age of divorce, sexual fluidity and so on, can we still afford to love somebody unconditionally?
